‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’ at Gathering on the Green

CEDARBURG - A fresh face will take the stage at Gathering on the Green on Saturday, July 15.

“We’re trying something new this year, bringing in a teen pop sensation that we hope helps draw younger people and families to our event,” said Gathering on the Green Executive Director Rob Kos.

The organization announced on May 11 that the Saturday night headliner at their summer concert event will be Grammy Award winning pop star Daya.

Best known for her platinum plus singles “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” “Hideaway” and “Words,” Daya won “Best Dance Recording” at the 2017 Grammy Awards, as well as a handful of other awards at the American Music Awards and MTV Music Awards.

Rolling Stone has named her one of their “10 New Artists You Need to Know,” and she was No. 5 on Billboard Magazine’s “21 Under 21.”

Daya’s appearance on the music scene has been an exciting one.

Daya’s debut album “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” released in 2015, has reached Gold status and has featured numerous hit singles and awards.

Daya was also featured on The Chainsmokers’ song “Don’t Let Me Down,” which peaked at no. 3 on the Hot 100.

“We’re overall just thrilled and really excited about this year’s event,” Kos added. “Bringing in Daya is really amazing for some of our younger families, and the Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald event the night before will be something special, as well.”

Tickets will be on sale soon for the event, which will be at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Mequon Rotary Park.

Meanwhile, there is still limited availability for the “One Night …Two Incredible Performances” concert featuring Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald at 8 p.m. Friday, July 14.

And the week prior to the event, GOG hosts its weeklong program educating 8- to 10-year-olds about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In partnership with the Boys and Girls Club and COA Youth and Family Centers, the program takes place at six locations in the greater Milwaukee area, including the suburban location at the MATC campus in Mequon.

Fundraising efforts to support the program are always underway, but there is a special event coming up to that benefits the summer program in addition to scholarships provided to local students by GOG.

Reservations are still being accepted for the “Sound Check Party,” which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the Wisconsin Club – Country Club, 6200 W. Good Hope Road, Milwaukee.
